CCE grad, Noble Tune, Breeders' Cup-bound

Noble Tune, a 2-year-old colt by Unbridled’s Song, looks as if his next start may well be in the $1 million Juvenile Turf race at the 2012 Breeders’ Cup to be run at Santa Anita Park on Saturday, Nov. 3.A graduate of Donna Freyer’s Custom Care Equine in Camden, Noble Tune won Monday’s $150,000 Pilgrim Stakes (Gr. II) at Belmont Park to guarantee a berth in the Breeders’ Cup as the 1 1/16-mile race on the turf was a Breeders’ Cup Challenge race.Owned by Martin Schwartz and Dell Ridge Farm, Noble Tune is trained by New York-based conditioner Chad Brown, who gave Ramon Dominguez a leg up on Monday.Noble Tune was sixth in the field of seven after a half-mile and moved up one spot to fifth at three-quarters of a mile before making his move at the top of the stretch to take the lead from Special Skills. Dominguez kept his mount on the point, fended off a late bid from Notacatbutallama and would go on to the 2 1/1-length victory.The final time over an inner turf course listed as yielding was 1:47.81.Noble Tune powered to a 3 1/2-length victory in his 1 1/16-mile debut over the Saratoga turf in an $85,000 maiden race on Sept. 3.
