It took a cold/sinus infection to do what no horse on this side of the Atlantic could do last month. In his first two starts over fences in America, Irish-bred Black Jack Blues won the $40,000 Dorothy Fred Smithwick Chase by four lengths over a field of eight starters in Middleburg, Va., on Oct. 1. Three weeks later, he wired a field of 14 horses in the $250,000 Grand National in Far Hills, N.J.
