Saturday will mark four weeks since Cassatt resident and apprentice steeplechase jockey Jorge Torres was critically injured in a fall from his horse at the Nov. 13 Colonial Cup Steeplechase Races in Camden. Since then, Torres, 25, has been recuperating at Palmetto Health Richland, the facility to which he was taken by helicopter after having been thrown from his mount, Malibu Moon, in the $25,000 Raymond G. Woolfe Memorial Steeplechase for 3-year-olds at the Springdale Race Course. In order to help Torres and his family with the bills associated with his hospital stay and recovery, family members of the injured jockey have set up the "Jorge Torres Assistance Fund," through Wachovia Bank.
