When Ninepins was at his peak in the 1999 and 2000 National Steeplechase Association seasons, Arch Kingsley was aboard the gelding for his three biggest wins. In 1999, Kingsley was in the irons when the then-12-year-old gelding captured both the $150,000 Breeders’ Cup Grand National in October and followed that with a victory in the $100,000 Colonial Cup in Camden one month later. In spite of those two Grade I wins, the Eclipse Award went to Lonesome Glory.
