Consider the debt partially paid back. When Xavier Aizpuru was seeking to come to and work in America as a jockey, it was Racing Hall of Fame trainer Janet Elliot who helped the English rider secure his visa. Saturday afternoon at the Springdale Race Course, the 37-year-old Aizpuru returned the favor. When Mark Beecher sustained broken ribs in the Springdale Open timber, the race immediately preceding the 44th running of the $100,000 Marion duPont Scott Colonial Cup, it left Elliot scouring the jock’s room to find a replacement aboard Alajmal. After conferring with Alajmal’s owner, Gregory Hawkins, the two decided to offer the ride to Aizpuru.
