Race director, sheriff want safe Cup for all

It will not exactly be business as usual in College Park for Saturday’s 79th running of the Carolina Cup Steeplechase Races, but the objective will be the same. Due to some confusion on various social networking sites, there were exaggerated rumors ranging from race organizers not allowing coolers to be carried onto the premises to having every vehicle entering the specifically sectioned-off area of the Springdale Race Course subject to a search of all beverages being carried into the course. In an effort to clear things up for race patrons planning on attending Saturday’s races, the Chronicle-Independent interviewed the two major parties which have a vested interest in the safety and security of College Park: Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews and Carolina Cup race director Jeff Teter.
