Sunshine Numbers returns with a second in Charleston Cup

Over Creek Stables’ Arrakis surged to the lead before the final fence and drew away to a 5 3/4-length victory under Roddy Mackenzie in the $25,000 Charleston Cup, feature race of the 19th annual Charleston Cup Steeplechase in South Carolina on Sunday. Pace-setting Sunshine Numbers, owned by Camden’s Sue Sensor, finished 2 ¾-lengths behind in his first start since winning the 2011 Carolina Cup for Camden-based trainer Arch Kingsley, who also rode the 10-year-old gelding. Sunshine Numbers has been beset by nagging injuries which kept him on the sidelines for the past 19 months.
