Flora boys, Chapin girls win XC meet in Camden

Facing a veritable “who’s who” of AAA cross country programs, the Camden girls finished fifth in a seven-team meet held Wednesday at Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site.Chapin won the event with 32 points followed, in order, by River Bluff (35), A.C. Flora (74), Dreher (126), Camden (142), Hartsville (169) and Westwood (192).Susannah Cate of A.C. Flora won the race with a time of 20:12. Camden’s top finisher was senior Jordan Woody, who took time from her duties as the Bulldogs’ kicker, to come home in 23rd place with a clocking of 23:10.Camden’s Stephanie Areford finished 26th in a time of 24:00. The Lady Bulldogs took the 30th through 32nd spots with Abigail McLaughlin (24:39), Megan Goodrich (24:51) and Caroline Woodward (25:03) following each other to the finish line for Pam Chickering’s squad“It was a tough meet as the top teams in 3A were in attendance; Flora, Chapin and Dreher,” Chickering said of a race which was run with temperature in the upper 80s.“However, even with tough competition, we had five girls earn personal bests of the season and we were able to beat a couple of the teams, Hartsville and Westwood.
