Former Camden High School basketball standout Evrik Gary needs just one point to become the 19th member of the Francis Marion University men’s basketball 1,000-point club.Gary heads into tonight’s 7 p.m. home game against visiting Johnson and Wales University having scored 999 points in his two-plus seasons as a Patriot.The contest will be televised live on Channel 11 of Florence's Time Warner Cable system as well as streamed on the Internet at www.ustream.tv/fmupatriots.A 6-foot-3, 155-pound redshirt junior guard, Gary leads the Patriots in scoring with a 16.3 points per game average. He also leads the team with 6.2 rebounds per outing as well as in field goal percentage (.455) and steals (31).Gary averaged 11.3 points per game as a freshman at FMU in 2010-11 before scoring at a 16.0 clip last season.Gary helped lead Camden to the 2008-09 AAA state basketball championship with a 25-2 record during a season in which he averaged better than 16 points per game for Ron McKie’s troops. Gary was selected to play in the North-South Basketball All-Star Game in which he won the 3-point shooting contest.Gary was also a standout in the classroom at Camden High.
