The Carolinas Four-Ball Championship could just as easily be called the “Camden Four-Ball Championship” or the “Camden Two-Man Invitational.”That's because the popular, prestigious Carolinas Golf Association event has already been played at historic Camden Country Club more than 50 times. The first Carolinas Four-Ball was played at Camden CC in 1950, with Benny Goodes of Reidsville, N.C., and Posey Isley of Leaksville, N.C., winning the title. Since then, it has been played elsewhere only five times -- in 1952 when it was conducted at Wilson (N.C.) Country Club, in 1953 at the CC of Spartanburg, SC, in 1968 and 1985 at Red Fox CC in Tryon, N.C., and in 2000 at Florence Country Club. The Camden Country Club is almost the perfect layout for this four-ball match play event. Short in length, but exceedingly demanding, the 6,455-yard, par-70 Camden layout is one of the most demanding in the Carolinas.
