Number nine seed Phillip Oweida and William Rainey of Charlotte, needed 18 holes and a late birdie on hole 17 to defeat the 15th seed team of Michael Thigpen and Gregg Jones of Florence, 1-up in the 18-hole championship match at Sunday’s 65th Carolinas Four-Ball Championship hosted by the Camden Country Club. Oweida and Rainey, both rising seniors at College of Charleston, never led by more than a single hole and trailed in the match until the 10th hole. A par save at 10 by Oweida, and a conceded birdie to Rainey on 11 gave the college players a 1-up lead with seven holes to play.
