Trio of KC golfers eyeing spots in state tourneys

Kelli Murphy finished third in last weekend’s Carolinas Golf Association’s seventh annual Vicki DiSantis Girls Championship golf tournament played at the Pine Island Country Club in Charlotte.Murphy, a sophomore and the number one player for the Lugoff-Elgin High School golf team, opened with a 4-over-par 76 on Saturday before closing with a tourney-low 70 for a two-day 146 total in the 36-hole event. Murphy, is the defending CGA Carolinas Girls’ champion, The weekend in Charlotte capped a busy week for Murphy, who qualified for today’s 4A Upper State boys’ golf championships at Woodfin Ridge Golf Club in Inman. While the Demons did not qualify as a team after competing in the the Region 4-4A tourney last week, Murphy secured a slot in the Upper State event by by shooting a 77 from the back tees at Wildewood.
