Gomez, North wrestle their way to state championships

Noah North added a second consecutive state championship to his legacy at Lugoff-Elgin while North Central’s Mason Gomez won his first at last weekend’s South Carolina High School League State Individual Championships held inside the Civic Center of Anderson. North, who is currently on an official visit to Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., added the 4A 152-pound crown to the title he won at 145 pounds a year ago while finishing up a 47-2 campaign Gomez, a senior at North Central, capped a 44-1 senior season by taking the AA-A 120-pound division. In all, six of the 13 wrestlers from Kershaw County earned podium finishes.
