MANNING -- It was an all too familiar early-season story for Manning-Santee Post 68 on Thursday in its home opener.Another big inning by the opposition --- helped along by two of seven errors on the night --- put Manning in a hole early and the Post 68 offense was unable to put together enough big innings of its to counter as Kershaw County earned a 10-5 victory at Monarch Field. The game was the first of the season Post 17, which banged out 16 hits on the evening, much to the delight of head coach Craig Smith.“This was a very big win for our guys,” Smith said. “We swung the bats well, we played good defense and Grayson (King) and (Zac) Bowers both threw the ball extremely well.”King received the season-opening start --- and win --- before giving way to Bowers, who earned the save, in the sixth. “They both did what we asked them to do,” Smith said of his two right-handers.
