After a 13-win regular season and a pair of two-game sweeps in the state playoffs, the Kershaw County Junior American Legion baseball team saw their season end in the state tournament at Socastee High School in Myrtle Beach this past weekend.The Post 17ers, which won the League IV title with a 13-2 record, fell to Summerville in Saturday afternoon’s first round pairing, 11-1.The setback dropped KC into Sunday’s elimination contest against Inman. The Upstate entry advanced in the tournament with a 2-0 victory over the 17ers to close the book on a 17-4 season. MPCU Kickoff Classic expands to four games: Eight teams, including host Lugoff-Elgin, will get their final tune-up for their regular season openers when they participate in the seventh annual May Plant Credit Union Kickoff Classic at Lugoff-Elgin Stadium on Friday, Aug. 17.The announcement of the pairings was made by L-E head football coach and athletic director Scott Jones earlier this week.The first of four mini-games, all of which will be one half of play in length, begins at 6 p.m. with games scheduled to be held each hour.The first contest of the night will have Fairfield Central squad, which has dropped into class AA ranks this year and will be in Region 4-AA, along with North central, meeting Ridge View, a member of Region 4-AAAA, along with L-E.The 7 p.m. game features a pair of 4A colleagues as Blythewood, another Region 4 entry, takes on West Florence, out of Region 6.
