Tyler Bowers belted a pair of home runs while driving in three runs, but it was not enough to help North Central get past host Buford in a 9-5 loss in Thursday’s first round of the AA District 3 baseball tournament. The host Yellow Jackets answered a one-run Knight top of the first by scoring seven times in the home portion of the inning, using one hit, a dropped third strike and a pair of NC errors to inflict the damage. The loss, which came after NC dropped a doubleheader to Buford six nights earlier, had Robbie Cash’s squad host Indian Land in Saturday’s elimination contest.“Our guys played hard,” Cash said. “After the first inning, we played well. But in that first inning, we did not make a couple routine plays in the field which you need to make, especially in the playoffs.“I thought that our outfield played a very good game and we were also able to manage their running game as Buford had just one stolen base.”Bowers’ first blast was a solo shot to right with one gone in the first.
