KC wrestling teams head in to post season

All three Kershaw County high school wrestling teams will kick off South Carolina High School League state tournament action on Saturday.Lugoff-Elgin, which won its 17th consecutive conference championship, will host the first and second round 4A tournament pod beginning at noon Saturday inside the Demons den.Peter Hemingway’s Region 4-4A champions will host Woodmont, the fourth-place finisher from Region 1 in the opening pairing while the other side of the bracket has Region 3-runner-up and ninth-ranked Fort Mill taking on Mauldin, the third-place finisher from Region 2. The winners of the first round pairings will meet that afternoon for the right to advance to Monday’s third round.Camden, which finished fourth in Region 4-AAA, will head to Region 3 champion Union County for its first round pairing on Saturday at 11 a.m. The other half of the bracket will have Belton-Honea Path, the Region 1 runner-up meeting the third-place finisher from Region 2. The winners of the first round pairings will meet that afternoon for the right to advance to Monday’s third round.North Central is fresh off winning the Region 3-AA title --- the school’s first in wrestling --- and heads to the AA Upper State Championship tournament at Powdersville High School which begins at 9 a.m.The Knights are seeded sixth in the 16-team event and will face 11th seeded Whitmire in the first round.
