KCPRD offers Dixie Youth, Dixie Boys umpire clinics

The Kershaw County Parks & Recreation Department is sponsoring a pair of umpire clinics in anticipation of the 2014 spring Dixie Youth and Dixie Boys baseball seasons.The two separate clinics will be held on March 8 and 9.On Saturday, March 8, there will be a clinic for those interested in umpiring Dixie Youth Baseball --- ages 5 through 12 --- games. The clinic, to be held at the Old Armory Gymnasium on DeKalb St. in Camden, will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 11 a.m. The clinic will be conducted by Tom Boan, Dixie Youth District 5 Umpire-in-Charge (UIC) and John Wall, Dixie Youth Baseball assistant UIC. The session will focus on umpire fundamentals, positioning and rule interpretations consistent with all baseball organizations. There will be both classroom and on-field instruction.Following the clinic, umpires are invited to stay and receive their Dixie Youth Umpire Certification.
