This was the unkindest cut of all. In a game which ended four hours and 45 minutes after it started -- thanks to a one-hour, 35-minute lightning delay -- an evening’s worth of frustration came to a boiling point for the Kershaw County American Legion team when an excuse-me swing from Hartsville’s Matt King with two outs in the top of the 12th inning drove in the winning run in what would be an 8-6 victory over the hosts on a long Thursday night at American Legion Park. The extra-inning setback, paired with Sumter’s win over Dalzell-Shaw, gave Sumter another League III title.
