L-E completes a sweep against Lady Bulldogs

CATHRYN OGLE and L-E defeated rival Camden in four sets in Wednesday’s match played inside the Demons Den.

After having taken three straight sets from Camden in their first meeting in Camden last month, the Lugoff-Elgin volleyball team completed a season sweep of their cross-river rivals with a 3-1 win Wednesday night in a match played inside the Demons Den.

The visiting Lady Bulldogs took the opening set, 25-14, before the hostesses won the next three, 25-12, 25-18 and 25-23.

The loss for Paige Wilson’s squad came on the heels of a 3-0 win over Keenan in a Region 4-AA match played one night earlier.

The Lady Bulldogs had little trouble with Keenan, in a 25-19, 25-11, 25-16 victory as they improved to 4-1 in conference action.

The Lady Demons split a pair of non-conference matches on Monday, defeating visiting A.C. Flora in three sets while dropping a pair to Cardinal Newman.

Katie Ham’s charges knocked off A.C. Flora, 25-21, 25-16, 16-14, before being defeated by Cardinal Newman, 25-13, 25-18.

Lady Bulldogs cruise past Irmo: Led by Eva Neal’s match-low 44, the Camden High girls’ golf team upended visiting Irmo, 191-277, in a Monday match played over the Camden Country Club course.

The victory gave Matt McCarley’s squad an 11-2 mark on the season.

CHS tennis team blasts Keenan: The Camden girls’ tennis team kept their Region 4-AAA slate clean through five matches with a 6-0 rout over Keenan on Tuesday in Columbia.

The victory was the 12th in 13 matches on the season for second-year head coach Pamela’s Smoak’s squad.

Collecting wins for the Lady Bulldogs were Imani Wyatt, Avery Younghans, Sarah Anne Smoak, Meg Grumbach, Caroline Cassidy, Eliza Reames and Emily Guy.

Spartans take third in Chesterfield meet: North Central’s Cameron Hoffman finished second indivdually while Camden Military Academy finished third in Tuesday’s six-team cross country meet hosted by Chesterfield High School.

Central of Pageland won the event with 45 points to outdistance the host Golden Rams who had 64.

CMA was next with 83 points followed by Cheraw (94), North Central (107) and Buford (124).

Hoffman, who also wrestles for the Knights in the winter season, finished behind event winner E.J Threatt of Central.

The top finisher for CMA was Caleb Thompson, who came in ninth. Spartans teammates Havina Lain, Peyton Allen, Matthew Healey and Wyatt Hart rounded out the team scoring by finishing 16th, 17th, 20th and 23rd place.

After Hoffman, Daniel Morgan finished 19th for the Knights with Dalton Smith 27th. Joshua Vazquez and Ishtor  Vera came in 30th and 38th place, respectively.
