L-E softball, NC tennis players rack up awards

Following a season in which a young Lugoff-Elgin softball team finished third in Region 4-4A play, post-season honors came the way of four members of the Lady Demons’ program.Sophomore pitcher Erin Blizzard, who fired a perfect game in a conference win over Richland Northeast this past season, was named to the High School Sports Report’s class 4A All-state team. She also garnered All-Region 4-4A honors in voting performed by the league’s six head softball coaches. Senior outfielder Meagan Owens and junior catcher Taylor Rawl both played their way onto the All-Region 4-4A squad, giving James Marlow’s charges three members of the elite unit.In addition, Lady Demon freshman second baseman Haylee Rabon was named to the 2013 High School Sports Report’s All-State Rookie Team.L-E lost its first round state playoff game to Dutch Fork, 1-0, before drubbing Conway, 9-1, to advance to the district semifinals in which the Lady Demons fell to Summerville to close out the season.NC netters explode onto scene: The 2013 spring tennis season was one in which North Central’s tennis record books were re-written by the Knights.Under first-year head coach Jon Parker, North Central set a school record for victories while winning its first conference crown in running the table in Region 3-AA. By taking the league title, the Knights appeared in the state playoffs, another first for the young program.At the conclusion of the season, NC first singles player, Christian Pratt, was named as the Region 3-AA player of the year while Parker was named as the Region 3-AA coach of the year.
