Lady Demons break into win column
NC'S ABIGAIL DURANT PASSES out of trouble while being guarded by L-E Saige McLeod (22), Celeste Etheride (14) and Ebonie Ross in Wednesday's game at the Demons Den.
It had only been eight days, but it seemed like forever. After opening the season with four straight losses, including two one-sided and a pair of close encounters, the Lugoff-Elgin girls broke into the win column with a 49-34 win over in-county rival North Central on Wednesday inside the Demons Den.Following her team’s first victory of the season it was business as usual for Lady Demon head coach Von Duncan, who was happy for her young squad which does not list a senior while having five freshmen listed on the roster.“The thing about having freshmen and sophomores is that they haven’t been ruined so you have a lot of stuff that you have to work on,” Duncan said. “But they will go to bat for you and they will do exactly what you tell them to do.”The Lady Demons did just that in erasing a 22-17 halftime deficit by outscoring the Lady Knights (0-4) in the second half, 32-12.NC’s offense goes through Morgan Bass, the program’s career 3-point shooting leader. The senior guard scored all 14 of her points --- and all but eight of the Lady’s Knights’ 22 --- in the first half, before being saddled with foul trouble.
