After having opened the season with 17 consecutive losses, the North Central girls’ basketball team snapped a skid of more 19 games, dating back to last February, with a 51-37 win over visiting Pelion on Friday night inside The Castle in Boonetown.The victory gave Mitch Lowder’s charges a 1-6 record in Region 3-AA play.The Lady Knights trailed, 12-9, after a first quarter in which a pair of Morgan Bass 3-point jumpers kept the hostesses in the ballgame.NC used a 10-8 second quarter advantage to head into the locker room behind by a 20-19 deficit. Brianna brown scored half of her teams’ points in the second stanza.The third quarter belonged to the Lady Knights as they exploded for 18 points while limiting the Lady Panthers to eight in building up a 37-28 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play.Brown, Bass and junior center Haley Thomas, who led all scorers on the night with a season-best 19 points, combined for all 18 NC points with Brown scoring eight while Bass and Thomas had five points each.Thomas took over in the post for the winners in the fourth quarter as she poured in 10 of the Lady Knights’ 14 points as NC pulled away from its guests. Thomas knocked down five of her six free throw tries in the final stanza.Thomas, Brown and Bass accounted for all of North Central’s 51 points with Thomas’ 19 leading the way.
