Before his team traveled to meet Lakewood on Friday night, Lugoff-Elgin boys’ basketball head coach Garrett Knight said the host Gators’ size and athleticism concerned him as the Demons prepared for their second Region 6-4A game of the season and second trip to Sumter County in three nights. Knight’s worries were well-founded as 6-foot-6 Lakewood forward Akeem Lawson scored 24 points while adding a dozen rebounds to help the Gators to a 66-49 victory. The loss left L-E with 1-1 conference record.
