Saving wear and tear on the family car and forsaking dividend air miles, Gatlin Lawson cut short his planned college visits when the Lugoff-Elgin track standout decided there was no place like staying close to home. Gatlin, a senior who finished third in the 200-meter run and fourth in the 100-meter dash at the 2018 South Carolina High School League’s AAAA state track and field championship meet, signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of South Carolina track and field program last Monday in a ceremony held inside L-E’s Wellness Center. “I thought about (going) out of state for the longest time.
