Lugoff-Elgin’s bid to return to the state playoffs for the first time since the Demons were a AAA entry in 2010, came up short in a win or go home game at Hartsville on Wednesday night. Having played catch up from the start of a game in which the host Red Foxes led, 12-9, after one quarter and 27-23 at halftime, Garrett Knight’s troops grabbed the lead for the first time in the closing minutes of the game only to have a turnover become a Hartsville basket as the hosts went on to the 61-55 win. L-E finished a game out of a state tourney berth with a 2-8 record in Region 6-4A. Hartsville and Darlington were both 3-7 to claim the final two bids in the conference.
