LR edges Dogs, 49-43; Knights rally for OT win

After having survived a slow start, the Camden boys’ basketball team came up just short at the end in their upset bid in a 49-043 loss to Lower Richland on Tuesday night in a game played inside the Diamond Mine in Hopkins.The defeat dropped the Bulldogs to 0-2 in Region 4-AAA play and 5-6 overall. The Diamond Hornets improved to 7-8 on the season and 2-0 in conference action.LR raced to a 20-7 lead after the first quarter before Camden rallied with a 15-4 second quarter surge to trail, 24-22 at intermission. After the two sides equally divided a 22-point third quarter, leaving the hosts with a 35-33 lead, the Diamond Hornets held off the Dogs down the stretch.Camden junior Michael James and senior Josh Council led the guests with 10 points each while Delton Bradford added eight.LR girls roll past outsized Camden: After having opened play in Region 4-AAA with a come-from-behind win over A.C. Flora in last Friday’s opener, the Camden girls were unable to repeat that feat on Tuesday against Lower Richland.The visiting Lady Bulldogs managed just eight second half points in a 67-30 loss to the unbeaten LR girls.The loss dropped Natalie Jeffcoat’s charges to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in league action.
