In between the incessant shrills of officials’ whistles and an endless procession to the foul line, Andrew Jackson and Lugoff-Elgin tried to play a basketball game Thursday night. They did, but just not enough to the approval of L-E head coach Garrett Knight whose team fell in a 19-2 hole after one quarter and came out on the short end of a 71-59 decision against the visiting Volunteers. In a contest in which the third quarter, alone, took more than a half-hour to complete, the two sides were collectively called for 66 fouls --- including 35 against the hosts --- and shot 83 free throws with the Volunteers making 23 of 40 as compared to L-E’s knocking down 17 of its 43 chances.
