Cementing its spot for a second straight trip to the state 4A tennis playoffs, Lugoff-Elgin used a 5-1 win over visiting Blythewood on Thursday to put the Demons firmly in third place in the Region 4-4A standings with two conference matches left on the schedule.The Demons improved to 7-5 overall and 5-3 in Region 4-4A action.L-E head coach Edward Rickwood said his team could ill afford a letdown on their home courts against the Bengals. His worries proved to be unfounded as the Demons won four singles matches in straight sets while receiving a forfeit in second doubles to lock down the victory.“We had already beaten Blythewood, earlier this year, at their place,” Rickwood said of the sweep of the Bengals. “Along with our win Tuesday against Richland NE, this put us in third place in our region.
