Cavs start and finish strong to hand Demons 61-42 loss

When you have a new coach, sometimes you need to walk before you can run. That, in not so many words, is what first-year Lugoff-Elgin boys basketball coach, Derek Belton, told his team during a timeout after visiting Richland Northeast ripped off 12 straight points to take a 12-2 lead in the first quarter of Tuesday’s Region 4-4A opener for both sides. Belton got his team to stop trying to force the issue against the Cavaliers, who fended off a series of L-E charges before pulling away for a 61-42 win.
