Playing for the third time in as many nights and 24 hours after an emotional win over rival Camden may have caught up with the Lugoff-Elgin baseball team. The Demons saw their four-game win streak come to an abrupt end in a 10-0 non-conference loss at Chapin on Thursday in a game stopped after four and a half innings by the 10-run rule. The host Eagles did all their damage in the second as they scored all 10 of their runs on five hits and 11 walks issued by a trio of L-E pitchers. On the other side, CHS sophomore left-hander Thomas Durant went the first four innings before being relieved by a classmate who threw from the other side. Together, the duo combined to shut the Demons out on two hits while fanning nine batters.L-E head coach Randy Stokes, whose team opened the week with a 4-1 win over Region 4-4A foe Richland Northeast on Tuesday before taking a 6-3 victory over Camden the following night, said he could tell his team was flat on the bus ride to Chapin. He did not use the busy early week schedule as an excuse, however.“We talked to our guys about how it would be tough coming off two emotional wins like we had on Tuesday and Wednesday,” he said.
