The Yellow Jackets are good enough to have pinned the first losses of the season on the Lugoff-Elgin first and second singles players, Hunter Horton and Hunter Johnson, respectively.The end result was Irmo downing the Demons, 5-1, in a Region 4-4A tennis match played Thursday on the L-E courts.The bright spot for the hosts was the newly formed second doubles tandem of Nathan Tyson and Justin Tillman scoring a 6-1, 6-3 in their debut as a team.Horton lost his first singles pairing, 6-2, 6-1, while Johnson fell by identical 6-1 scores in second singles for Edward Rickwood’s charges. James Carraway fell at third singles, 6-2, 6-1.Irmo completed a sweep of singles play as L-E’s Chance Sheorn was upended, 6-1, 6-2, in fourth singles while Levi Benngio, who was moved from doubles to fifth singles, suffered a 6-2, 6-0 setback.Rickwood tipped his cap to the Yellow Jackets following his team’s falling to 1-2 in conference play.“Irmo is tough,” he said.
