Demons fall in finale

Needing one win in their last three games to earn a slot in the 4A state baseball tournament, Lugoff-Elgin saw its post-season hopes go by the boards in a 10-5 loss to Blythewood in Monday’s regular season finale. Earlier in the day, Demons’ head coach Randy Stokes was told that even if his team should lose to Blythewood, they could still earn a post-season berth if Ridge View beat Dutch Fork. The latter part of the equation came to be as RV downed the Silver Foxes, 11-5, setting up a three-way tie for fourth place in the region between, L-E, Dutch Fork and Irmo.
