t took three trips to Summerville but, in the end, it may have been worth the long hours on the bus for the Lugoff-Elgin baseball team. After having Monday’s 4A District 5 elimination game rained out after having driven to the Lowcountry, the Demons returned to Ashley Ridge on Tuesday, only to find the field had not been worked on. After trying in vain to play the game at Ashley Ridge, L-E head coach Randy Stokes called the head coach at Cane Bay to see if the game could be played there. While that field was available, Ashley Ridge’s players had already left to go home for the day meaning the Demons would have to make a third trip to the Summerville area on Wednesday. After that third day in the Charleston area, the Demons had something to show for all their wear and tear --- not to mention the miles logged on the bus --- as they scored three times in the top of the ninth to knock off the defending 4A state champions, 6-3, in a nine inning battle. The win put L-E into the District 5 championship against Lexington on Thursday.
