In a pairing which had all the earmarks of a classic last game of the season in which one team is priming for the playoffs and the other is playing out the string, Lugoff-Elgin pounded visiting Irmo, 13-0, on Senior Night at Optimist Field on Monday. The mercy rule-shortened contest gave the host Demons (10-12) their third straight win as they prepare for Thursday’s 4A District 5 Lower State opener at Lexington. For Irmo, the shutout put the season to rest as the young Yellow Jackets went 1-9 in Region 4-4A.Receiving a five-inning, three-hit, 10-strikeout performance from senior Taylor Lunsford, L-E head coach Randy Stokes started each of his five seniors on a night in which the hosts collected a dozen hits off four Yellow Jacket pitchers. After a four-run second gave the Demons a 5-0 lead, they would use an eight-run bottom of the fourth to put this one in the books after four and one-half innings of play.“I’m glad for our seniors,” Stokes said after a brief post-game meeting with his squad.
