Since Lugoff-Elgin restarted its boys’ tennis program six years ago, L-E and Richland Northeast have been in a see-saw pattern when it comes to matches between the two nearby rivals. On Tuesday, the Demons started putting some separation between themselves and RNE with Edward Rickwood’s squad coming away with a 5-1 win over the host Cavaliers to sweep the season series with both wins coming by identical 5-1 scores. The Region 4-4A victory gave L-E a 4-3 conference mark and a 6-4 overall record. Equally, important, the Demons all but secured a second consecutive 4A state tournament appearance with the win.The guests nailed this one down by winning the first four singles pairings, starting with freshman Hunter Horton’s 6-0, 6-0 shutout at first singles. Hunter Johnson won by identical 6-2 scores at second singles.
