Sure, there were plenty of times in which Lugoff-Elgin’s 7-6 win over Andrew Jackson in the middle game of Friday’s 37th annual Camden Shrine Club Football Jamboree were painful to watch. For the purists, however, there was something to smile about. For nearly as long as there has been the forward pass in football, secondary coaches have used the “tip drill” in practice. The drill has one player tipping a thrown ball into the air with a trailing teammate plucking the ball and getting the interception. On three occasions --- on a night in which the Demons picked off four Volunteer passes --- a tipped ball led to a turnover which stalled an AJ march.
