There were times this season in which bench was a lonely place for the Lugoff-Elgin girls’ basketball team. Due to a freakish run of season-ending ACL injuries, having players missing games after having been involved in a car wreck and other dental and illness maladies, finding enough able bodies to suit up for a game became just as big a challenge as the contests on the court themselves were for head coach Von Duncan. Friday night in a 76-15 loss to visiting Dutch Fork to close out a long, strange campaign for the Lady Demons, things started on a high note as senior Alexandria Nelson, who missed most of the season with an ACL injury, returned to the court for one play as she opened the contest by draining a 15-foot jumper while her right leg was supported by an ankle to thigh brace to give the hostesses a quick 2-0 lead.
