Going head to head with an All-American

A youngster at the Lugoff-Elgin Wrestling Camp gets one-on-one instruction from former Demon Deral Brown, a three-time individual state champion and winner of 174 matches during his Lugoff-Elgin High School wrestling career. Brown, a guest instructor at the four-day session at his high school alma mater, is a recent graduate of Newberry College and a four-year starter for the Wolves wrestling squad. This past season, Brown finished fourth in the NCAA Division II National Tournament in the 149-pound division as he earned All-America laurels in the process. Brown finished with a 40-7 record this past year, making him just the fourth Newberry wrestler to earn 40 or more victories in a season. His 142 career victories placed him second in the history of the program, just one behind leader Bryant Blanton. - photo by C-I photo by Tom Didato
