Green Wave holds off Lady Demons, 2-1

SUMMERVILLE -- Summerville scored two runs off three hits in the bottom of the first inning and then held off the visiting Lugoff-Elgin for a 2-1 win in Tuesday’s 4A District 8 softball tournament elimination game. The loss closed a 12-13 season for the Lady Demons while the Green Wave (21-7) faced Dutch Fork in Wednesday’s district tournament championship.In the bottom of the first, Green Wave catcher Taylor Belfiore hit a deep single to plate Sarah Windham and Taylor Wuerfel from second and third.That lead held until the top of the seventh inning.In their final at-bat, the Lady Demons’ Dallas Gurrereo reached on a one-out single and moved to second on a errant throw on a pickoff attempt to first. Taylor Rawl then doubled off the wall in left field to drive Guerrero in.The visitors put another runner on base when pinch-hitter Taylor Mullins was hit with a pitch to put runners on first and second with one gone.
