Hemingway takes reins of L-E wrestling program
FORMER L-E WRESTLING STANDOUT Peter Hemingway has been named the new head wrestling coach at his high school alma mater.
For someone whose last name conjures of thoughts of lengthy novels, Peter Hemingway is looking to speed things up on the wrestling mat at Lugoff-Elgin High School.A member of the school’s run as three-time state AAA wrestling champion --- in 1997, ’98 and ’99 --- the 1999 L-E High graduate was named as the Demons’ new head wrestling coach following the departure of Evan Moxie, under whom Hemingway served as an assistant for the past four seasons. Moxie, who guided the program to their sixth AAA state crown in 2010 in his first season at the Demons’ helm, accepted a position as a teacher and head wrestling coach at Cardinal Newman High School earlier this spring. Moxie’s departure opened the door for Hemingway, who also worked as an assistant at his high school alma mater for Moxie’s predecessor, Kevin Knoerr.
