One of the first things which Jessica Mullins did after being named the head volleyball coach at Lugoff-Elgin High School last spring was to meet with her predecessor, Susan Morris, to discuss the returning members of the 2011 Lady Demons.Among the players of whom Morris spoke highly was junior Libero, Megan Kirkland. By the time Mullins met Kirkland for the first time, the then-rising junior had already started making a name for herself in volleyball circles, including those in Columbia and in Oxford, Miss. Shortly after the start of pre-season workouts, Mullins found out what all the fuss was about in regard to the 5-foot-7 defensive specialist.“I didn’t know Megan when I first came in,” Mullins said.
