If you are going to win two games in a four-game tournament, you want those to be your final pair of outings of the event. That is precisely what the Lugoff-Elgin baseball team did in last week’s Carolina Ale House Classic. After having dropped their first two games in the event, the Demons closed quickly with a 4-3 win over Brookland-Cayce on Thursday before polishing off Region 4-4A colleague Richland Northeast, 7-3, in Friday’s tourney finale.Getting back-to-back wins to close out the pre-season was exactly what L-E head coach Randy Stokes said his new-look squad needed.“Those wins were big for us,” he said.“We talk about how young our kids are this year. Playing games like this are important to them and to our team. They’re getting better every time they step out on the field.”Before taking on RNE, which the Demons faced in Tuesday’s regular season and conference opener, Stokes told his team that the game was more than just a pre-season contest.“Before we got off the bus,” he said, “I told our guys that this was a big game for us in terms of building momentum as we go into the regular season.”Using a pair of suicide squeeze bunts, the host Cavaliers pushed across three runs in the bottom of the second to jump to a 3-0 lead.
