Pushed to play a game-deciding first doubles match for the first time this season, the Lugoff-Elgin tennis tandem of Spencer Hinton and Holden Roberts were more than up to the challenge in Tuesday’s 4-3 road win at Irmo.
The victory gave Jon Blevins’ troops a 4-1 overall record and a 2-1 mark in Region 4-5A play.
Spencer Hinton and Roberts needed just two sets to give the match to the Demons as they defeated Hayden Felkel and Jack Ostergaard, 6-1, 7-5.
Earlier in the pairing, Spencer Hinton handed Sean Dougherty a pair of 6-3 losses in first singles. Irmo won at second singles with Hayden Fenkel tripping up Alex Hinton, 6-4, 6-3 before Roberts swept past Jack Ostergaard at third singles, 6-4, 6-2.
Coby Morrison gave the Demons a win at number four by holding off Matthew Addison, 6-2, 7-5. The Yellow Jackets sent the match to the first doubles tie-breaker with Aidan Murphy outlasting Andrew Boone (LE) 2-6, 6-4, 10-7.
Irmo also took second doubles as Eric Dougherty and Ben Stinson uoended Xavier Hunt and Giordan Whitsett, 7-6, 6-0.
