When the South Carolina High School League unveiled its new conferences for 2016 through 2018, it was all but a given that the Lugoff-Elgin wrestling team would have its way in Region 6-4A. After four matches against league foes Darlington and Hartsville, the only other schools in the five-school circuit which have wrestling programs, Lugoff-Elgin has breezed to a 4-0 conference record and have outscored their two 6-4A foes by a combined 286-24 count. Tuesday night was a near-repeat of the first time the three programs met in a tri-match as L-E blasted Darlington, 75-3, before drubbing Hartsville, 70-6, to lock up the conference title. The three teams will meet for a third time next Wednesday night in Hartsville.
