L-EMS downs CMS in Leopard Duals finale

Playing the role of the Grinch, the Lugoff-Elgin Middle School wrestling team won their own Leopard Duals on Saturday by holding off an improved Camden Middle School team in the finals, 56-24.The victory gave the Leopards a 10-0 record in dual matches heading into the Christmas holiday break.Ted Monroe’s squad opened the Leopard Duals by defeating North Central (72-9), Sumter (63-17) and White Knoll (49-30) to advance to the championship pairing with the War Eagles.Finishing the day unbeaten, with three or more victories for the champions in the eight-team event, were Devin Wilson (82 pounds), Bryan Robinson (90 pounds), Elijah Dixon (98), Taylor Catoe (110), Dontrell Johnson (119), Dalton Haven (126), Noah North (132) and Montreal Lee (145).“Our team looks real sharp heading into the break,” Monroe said. “We have a couple kids who are a little nicked up and a few who are sick, but we battled through those.”After a short break, the Leopards will return to competition on Saturday, Jan. 5 when they travel to Castle Heights Middle School in Rock Hill to compete in the Carolina Duals. L-EMS has been placed in a pool which includes the hosts and defending Carolina Invitational champion, Dutchman’s Creek.
