L-EMS qualifies nine for Carolina Invitational

It was a big, not to mention, winning, week for the Lugoff-Elgin Middle School wrestling team with another important week on the docket over the next four days.Last Wednesday, Ted Monroe’s charges kicked off their dual meet campaign by thumping visiting Stover Middle School, 76-6, and North Central Middle School, 82-0, in a Wednesday night tri-match.On Saturday, nine Leopard wrestlers earned a berth into next month’s Carolina Invitational by qualifying for the unofficial state middle school wrestling championship at a first round qualifier hosted by White Knoll Middle School. Five L-EMS grapplers won their respective weight divisions while four others finished second. The top two finishers punched their ticket in to the Carolina Invitational.Taking home first-place honors for the Leopards, and their weight class, were Bryan Robinson (92 pounds), Donneal Johnson (104), Taylor Catoe (110), Noah North (124) and Montreal Lee (146).Four L-EMS wrestlers finished second including Devin Wilson (80), Elijah Dixon (98), Austin Radvansky (110) and Dontrell Johnson (117).The second of the two qualifiers will be held at L-EMS in January.
