Lugoff-Elgin senior Devin Walker was a two-time post-season honoree following the Demons’ 2012 season. After being named to the All-Region 4-4A squad, along with teammate Taylor Lunsford, Walker was selected to play for the North 1A/4A team in the North-South All-Star weekend games to be played June 15 and 16 at the Ripken Experience complex in Myrtle Beach.A three-year starting catcher for Randy Stokes’ squad, Walker led the Demons with a .375 batting average. The Winthrop University signee had five doubles and a triple among his 27 hits in 72 at-bats.Walker, who was the last member of L-E’s 2010 AAA state championship team to be playing high school baseball this past season, was switched to the leadoff spot in the batting order for his senior campaign. That led to his RBI total falling to eight, but his speed allowed him to swipe a team-best 20 bases in helping the Demons make the 4A state playoffs for the first time in school history after L-E was bumped into the state’s largest school classification in the 2010-11 school year.Lunsford picked up where he left off as a sophomore and improved on his performance in being named to the All-Region 4-4A squad. The left-hander became more of a power pitcher in 2012, as evidenced by his striking out 16 Irmo batters in a 3-0 shutout road win on March 21.Using a blend of a moving fastball and an assortment of off-speed pitches, Lunsford fashioned a 4-2 record for the Demons before being sidelined for the final two regular season games and the playoffs due to an elbow injury.
