There was a time when a volleyball match with Lugoff-Elgin meant the opposing team’s bench players would see plenty of action on the court.Rest assured, members of this group of Lady Demons cannot remember that far back. When Susan Morris took over the keys to the program in 2005, L-E went from cellar-dweller to a tough out in the playoffs. Then, last season, her third as Morris’ successor, Jessica Mullins did what no other volleyball coach in school history had done in guiding the Lady Demons to a region championship. And if somebody in Region 4-4A is going to make a play for the 2014 title, they will have to go through Highway 1 South. While some coaches downplay talk of a repeat, Mullins speaks openly about the challenges facing her team in its quest to do just that with the eyes of L-E’s five region colleagues fixes on the Lady Demons.“There’s always pressure to do it again,” she said of defending the region tiara.
