Pretty soon, the organizers of the Carolina Duals wrestling tournament might ask the Lugoff-Elgin Middle School wrestling team to bring the tournament championship trophy with them when they head to the yearly event in Rock Hill. For the third time in the last five years, the Leopards won the prestigious event as Ted Monroe’s troops won all five of their matches on Saturday at Castle Heights Middle School.“My standards are pretty high,” Monroe said after the title, “and, all our kids exceeded my expectations in this tournament.”L-EMS opened pool play with Monroe wrestling many of his backups in a 41-28 win over York Middle School to kick off the event. Next up was a 75-6 blowout over Sun Valley Middle School out of North Carolina. Pool competition ended with the Leopards upending Dutchman’s Creek, 44-28, to win the pool.“Dutchman’s Creek was the strongest team there, other than ourselves,” Monroe said.
